This morning when I woke up, I was greeted in emails by 1 video from my sister-in-law and 2 photos from my Dad and nephew in Hong Kong all on the same subject. What can they be so excited about?
The World’s Largest Rubber Duck has arrived in Hong Kong! The Dutch artist Florentjin Hofman designed this giant inflatable “Rubber Duck,” a 46 feet by 55 feet floating sculpture, that is tugged around by a small tug boat. The giant duck started “sailing” around the world in 2007, and could be seen in St. Nazaire (FR), Sao Paulo (BR), Auckland (NZ), Hasselt (BE),Osaka and Hiroshima (JP), Sydney (AUS), Nürnberg (DE), Amsterdam (NL) and now Hong Kong.
According to the artist:
“The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation.
The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!”
Just watching the video, I can already imagine the smiles, happy memories and the wonder this duck will bring to everyone’s face and heart. It is an immediate and simple joy which everyone can appreciate – no complexity in art, no agenda, just a floating duck blobbing around, bringing back favourite childhood moments! I think this is not just artwork, but simple human nature at its best – sharing the joy!
Giant rate is very beautiful! It’s a great idea to see something on the water! I would love to see myself one in reality!

This giant rubber duck has recently brought so much happiness and attracted so much attention from the ordinary citizens of Hong Kong that I can’t help reblogging it. Thank you Simple Cherishes for this wonderful post 🙂
I have seen it several times in Osaka, but I have never known its real meaning why it was there. Go Rubber Duck , heal the world 🙂
Thanks for your comments – the Rubber Duck is doing its job!!
Whenever I see a rubber duckie I think of my son when he was a toddler. Fantastic memories. The artist is right, suitable for all ages.

What a great way to start my day. Sheer happiness.
Really glad to share this! Warm wishes from simple cherishes.
i also like calling it “photoshop duck” because rubber duck is always included in photoshop sample images. copyright free, non-discriminative, no age limit, a peaceful message.
Lovely additions. Thanks so much for your comments!
The very thing to brighten our harbour! I’m commissioning one right away! 🙂
That would certainly bring a lot of laughter!
Like banjo music…. how can one be unhappy or despair in the face of a giant rubber duck? Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for liking it. May you have many “rubber duck” moments!
