My favorite national park for relaxation within the City of San Francisco is The Presidio which is the world’s largest national park in an urban area, just about 30 minutes by public transportation from downtown. According to The Presidio Trust website, the Presidio was once one of the oldest continuously operating military posts in the nation. It is also a National Historical Landmark and is managed by the Presidio Trust. It is unusual among parks because people live and work here as well as visit. With its dozen of trails, 24 miles of routes, six scenic overlooks, lodging, restaurants, camping ground, beaches and fields, there is just about something to do for everyone.
A couple of my favorite spots within the forest and trails are (1) Lovers’ Lane and (2) the entrance to the Bay Area Ridge Trail:
